5.SLOW... from A-Z
« on: January 24, 2008, 10:28:03 AM »
so here are some before shots of my engine bay, i started this project this fall with the intent to pull the motor, scrape all the undercoating out of the bay, sand, smooth and repaint, and then rebuild the motor.

as you can all see its disgusting under there i was embarrassed to pop the hood.

upper plenum off

andy wrenching on something

finaly after a year of anticipating

the sludge all over my motor can be attributed to the fact that my valve cover bolts were all finger tight...

the first day using pressure washer, ended up getting alot of undercoating off but i was dumb and didnt pre-soak it in degreaser the previous night, the grease and dirt comes out fine but the undercoating is tough to get under even with full pressure. so i did what i could and put it back in the garage for the night with a heavy coat of purple power on all the tough spots

i did more scraping/sanding on this day and at the end of the night did a little rattle can primer on the passenger side to see how it was gonna come out, im pretty pleased with how it looks, even with spray paint. im not using spray paint to paint the bay, but i had a can of primer and couldnt resist trying it out.

did abit more scraping and sanding and applied por-15 to the rusted areas in the bay, that stuff works great.

and i think after i sand the por-15 and go over everything with some extra fine paper, ill pretty much be in the position where i ask myself if i want to fill the holes or if i want to just paint it and get it over with...

heres how it looks now.

i transfered all these pictures over from another forum just so you guys can see my progress, this is how it sits right now, i will keep you guys updated and add more pics as i do work.
